Dynamic Architecture of Life

STATEMENT

This digital work, Dynamic Architecture of Life, is a living ecological canvas that explores the delicate and often invisible architecture of the Everglades ecosystem, mirroring the interplay between the organism, the collective biome, and the profound influence of an external force. Each vibrant organism possesses its own quiet agency, while the intricate lines of the food web are not permanent structures but ephemeral connections born purely of proximity—a transient web reflecting the fluid nature of survival in the sawgrass and cypress domes. Upon entering this system, an external force—be it a drainage canal, a new chemical, or an invasive species—acts as a silent catalyst, fundamentally altering the ecosystem with a dual, paradoxical nature. The primary interaction is one of repulsion and disruption; the delicate balance recoils from its presence as native populations are pushed away or diminished, demonstrating that no intervention is ever neutral and the presence of an external influence inevitably perturbs any natural system. Simultaneously, this same presence becomes a new, powerful node of connection, a temporary hub around which a different order takes shape. An artificial canal becomes a new artery for water and life; a patch of cleared land becomes a new foraging ground. This reflects the capacity for an influence to become a focal point for a reconfigured community, even as it disrupts the ancient one. Presence & Proximity is therefore an interactive meditation on the ecological footprint of an external influence, asking how the arrival and persistence of such a force alters the delicate web of relationships, leaving an indelible trace on a system forever changed by its passage.
